InterfaceFLOR Launches Cool Co2mmute

New Initiative Challenges Employees to Reduce Carbon Footprint

InterfaceFLOR, the modular flooring arm of Interface Inc, the world’s leading company in sustainability*, has introduced a new company-wide scheme aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of its employees’ journeys to and from work.

Called Cool Co2mmute, the initiative enables employees to calculate the Co2 emissions generated by their individual daily commute and identify the cost of offsetting them through investment in projects designed to prevent carbon from entering the atmosphere.

InterfaceFLOR, which is European market leader in modular flooring and fabrics, has UK and European manufacturing facilities in Halifax, West Yorkshire; Craigavon, Northern Ireland and Scherpenzeel in the Netherlands

An award winning leader in sustainability, Interface has been striving to reduce its impact on the environment since 1994. This global initiative is now called, “Mission Zero,” as the company aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2020.

Ed Blamey, InterfaceFLOR’s European Sustainability Director, explains the significance of Cool Co2mmute:

“Climate change is one of the most serious threats facing global society. We all need to make every effort to reduce our emissions by as much as we can; it is then possible to offset those emissions which cannot be avoided. InterfaceFLOR is actively working to reduce emissions via energy efficiency programmes and increasing the use of renewable energy usage. Cool Co2mmute is the latest example of our commitment and shows that we try our hardest to practice what we preach”

The special Cool Co2mmute website, which is open to all InterfaceFLOR staff, enables employees to identify and offset carbon emissions caused through their work related journeys, whether taken by aeroplane, bus, car or train.

The Cool Co2mmute initiative is run in association with Climate Care, which has nine years' experience of sourcing projects around the world to develop high quality CO2 offset projects with strong sustainable development credentials.
