InterfaceFLOR employees refurbish local community centre
Staff at local employer InterfaceFLOR took time out from their usual working day to help give a local community centre an extensive facelift on Thursday 15th March. The Furness Community Centre in Mixenden is frequently used by the local community but in recent years has become run down and was in desperate need of a makeover.
The eight volunteers from InterfaceFLOR have been washing, prepping and re-painting walls, as well as fitting brand new carpets at the facility.
Louise Sheridan, HR Manager at InterfaceFLOR says: “This was a great project to get involved in. The centre was in very poor condition, which is a shame because it is such a great asset to the local community. Hopefully thanks to everyone’s hard work, the centre will be a nicer place to go.”
InterfaceFLOR carried out the work in partnership with Calderdale Cares, a campaign supported by Business in the Community to engage employees in their communities through volunteering. The purpose of the campaign is to develop partnerships, build strong links in the local community and to ensure that volunteering activity is focused on the issues that really matter.
The work carried out at the Furness Community Centre is the first project where InterfaceFLOR has worked in partnership with Calderdale Cares. The two organisations are now discussing other potential projects that will have a positive impact on the local community.
