InterfaceFLOR CEO named Chairman of CBI’s Yorkshire and Humber Council

26 June 2008:

Lindsey Parnell, European CEO and President of InterfaceFLOR, a leading manufacturer of environmentally-responsible modular flooring and the world’s most sustainable company, has succeeded Ian McIntosh as Chairman of the Confederation of British Industry’s (CBI’s) Yorkshire & Humber Council. Lindsey is the driving force behind InterfaceFLOR’s ‘Mission Zero’ in Europe, the company’s pledge to achieve zero carbon foot print by the year 2020.

As well as assuming the role of chairman of the CBI’s Yorkshire & Humber Council, Lindsey will also take a seat on the CBI chairman’s committee, which has lead responsibility for setting the CBI’s position on all policy matters.

Commenting on his new role Lindsey said, “Accepting this appointment is a great honour for me. The CBI is the undisputed voice of British business and is already taking great strides in putting energy and the environment at the top of the political agenda. Many organisations see sustainability as a cost to the business – something to be abandoned in times of economic slowdown – but I hope to demonstrate that sustainability positively impacts business growth and the bottom line.”

Lindsey began his career with British Steel, having graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Hull University. After spending three years as a consultant with Coopers & Lybrand, Lindsey joined the carpet industry with Firth Carpets in 1996.

In 1997 the company was bought by Interface and a year later Lindsey was promoted to Vice-President of Operations for Interface's modular floor covering operations in the UK. In 1999 he was promoted to Senior Vice-President of Operations for the entire European modular flooring operations, moving on to become President and Chief Executive Officer of InterfaceFLOR Europe in 2002.
