Civil Aviation Authority receives
Cool Carpet® Award!

In recognition of the Civil Aviation Authority’s adherence to environmental concerns when specifying 12,000m² of carpet tiles, InterfaceFLOR sales manager Mark Reumel presented Brian Norris, Support Services Manager of CAA, with a Cool Carpet® certificate.

InterfaceFLOR’s Cool Carpet® is the industry’s first ‘climate neutral’ carpet. Through this scheme, the greenhouse gases emitted during the entire lifecycle of the product are offset through investment in projects which reduce or reverse the impact of those emissions. In this way Cool Carpet® allows customers, such as CAA, to make a purchase that has no negative impact with respect to global climate change.

Brian Norris looked to specify environmentally-friendly materials for the refurbishment of the CAA’s building in London which had previously been occupied by the National Air Traffic Services.

Once 10,000m² of old carpet tiles had been removed for repurposing at Pennine Magpie, one of InterfaceFLOR’s recycling partners, the new tiles were laid. The product chosen, Transformation, is based on the concept of biomimicry (a copy of nature): just as with fallen leaves caught by the wind, the patterning on each single tile creates a randomness of design, however laid.
