Carpet tiles are now being employed as a high quality flooring solution for casinos to provide a modular system which is practical, dependable and infinitely flexible.
In simple terms, a modular flooring system offers interchangeable, easily configured tiles that allow for selective replacement or change. Among interior designers, architects and specifiers, it is seen as much more than a smart flooring investment that embraces practical advantages; it is recognised as providing a key design element that can bring colour, dynamism and comfort to virtually any interior, be it the conference room or bedroom.
One of the most startling aspects of using a modular carpet is the reduction of waste during installation: during an average installation using traditional broadloom carpet approximately 13% of the material is wasted yet, by using modular, this figure drops to less than 4%. Even more spectacular are the savings achieved with the new generation of modular carpet from InterfaceFLOR, namely I² Inspiration Squared, which achieves near zero waste since it can be installed non directional.
Entropy was the first modular carpet to be designed for random installation. Equally importantly it allows tiles to be swapped about with no colour incompatibility, even when replacing excessively worn areas. A floor takes more wear and tear than any other surface in an interior environment but most of that wear occurs on only 20% of the surface, so it’s vital to be able to replace sections without them showing.
Speed of installation is another key factor. Modular flooring is easier to handle than a four-metre wide roll of conventional broadloom and there is no underlay and no seaming to slow down installation. The figures speak for themselves. On average, in a typical installation, it can take up to 60 man-hours to install broadloom carpet in a 400 square metre space but, in most cases, a modular carpet can be laid in the same space in around half that time.
Crucially, modular carpet enables dynamic design and creative freedom since it can be printed on and also used to create individual designs by cutting different shapes into the carpet.
